Living the Spirit of God Through the Spiritual Exercises

Breath

Details of the retreat

Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises are a comprehensive series of meditative practices and prayers designed to deepen one’s relationship with God, discern God’s will, and cultivate an integrated and purpose-driven life. While originally developed as a 30-day retreat, many find it challenging to detach from their daily responsibilities for such an extended period. “Breath: Living the Spirit of God Through the Spiritual Exercises” seeks to make the transformative experience of the Spiritual Exercises accessible within the rhythms of everyday life.

Objective

To offer participants an opportunity to engage with the core principles and practices of the Spiritual Exercises in the context of their daily life. By weaving the Exercises into everyday experiences, we aim to foster a continuous, intimate, and transformative encounter with God.

Who is this for?

Integration with Daily Life

Ignatius himself believed in finding God in all things. By integrating the Exercises into daily life, participants can better recognize and respond to God’s presence in ordinary moments.

Flexibility & Accessibility

A retreat centered around daily life allows for more people to participate, especially those who cannot afford to take extended time off.

Cultivation of Awareness

“Breath: Living the Spirit of God Through the Spiritual Exercises” emphasizes mindfulness and presence. The process helps participants become more attuned to their inner thoughts, emotions, and desires, aligning with Ignatian principles of discernment and self-awareness.

Cultivation of Awareness

Rather than a one-time intensive experience, “Breath: Living the Spirit of God Through the Spiritual Exercises” allows for prolonged engagement with the Exercises. This slow and steady immersion can lead to deeper and more sustainable spiritual growth.

Holistic Integration

Ignatian spirituality emphasizes the unity of heart, mind, and soul. By practicing the Exercises in the midst of daily responsibilities, participants can better integrate their spiritual insights with their actions, decisions, and relationships.

Practice of Discernment

One of the cornerstones of Ignatian spirituality is discernment – the practice of recognizing and following God’s will in our lives. Navigating daily choices and challenges with the lens of the Exercises equips participants with tools to make more intentional, God-centered decisions.

Strengthening of Community

While personal reflection is vital, the shared experience of engaging in the Exercises amidst daily life fosters a sense of community. Participants can support, challenge, and learn from one another, enriching their individual journeys.

"Breath: Living the Spirit of God Through the Spiritual Exercises" seeks to make the profound wisdom of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola not just a periodic retreat experience, but a lived reality, deeply woven into the fabric of everyday existence.
